LR 3 - new publish functionality to be used by Slideshowpro

Hello,

Are you planning to use the new publishing functionality of LR3?

As fas as I understand, this would allow to manage the photo content from LR directly instead as from Director. The benefits are clear to me:
- no duplication/rewriting of metadata from LR to Director
- no uploading of photo from LR to Director
- following of the Collections hierarchy as defined in LR's Library to publish into Slideshows>Gallery>Albums.

Slideshowpro includes API, which would make it possible, right?

Thank you in advance,
Stève

I think you slightly misunderstand what the various bits do. Publish wouldn't really be used instead of Director, but instead of using LR's Export command. You'd still have Director, and the Publish service would use the Director API to upload and allow synchronisation of content with it.

Would you be able then to synchronize LR collections with Director albums, without the need to define them in Director?

Potentially, yes, or one might use other features of LR's SDK such as custom fields. At this point we're a few months off LR3 being released, when its features will be fixed, and it's more the time for exploring potential needs and thinking about how they could be incorporated. For example, would one want to (optionally) include ratings, location fields (copying them into keywords), or any other LR information?

This would be a great feature. I would want to use any keyword or IPTC/EXIF data specified in LR for publishing SSP galleries. For instance, my title/caption are a blend of those.

I am wondering of another feature. It seems to be possible to store/sort movies in LR (for instance thanks to Jeffrey Friedl and perhaps as a new feature in LR3 acc. to rumours). As SSP is able to build in movies, would it be possible to display movies and/or photos in an SSP slideshow as they appear in a LR collection?

*IF* LR3 supports it, we could potentially re-write SSP/LR to enable those features.  We'd have a LR1, LR2, and an LR3 version of SSP/LR.

I don't know what Todd's planning.  However, if LR3 supports management of FLV files, I hope he does.

Like John says, we're going to have to wait until LR3 is release and Todd has the time (and energy) to implement an LR3 specific version of SSP/LR.

As far as albums based on IPTIC/EXIF goes, you can already create a Smart Collection in LR2 that will do that for you.  Of course, you'll need to re-export if that changes...

I was thinking of test driving the LR3 beta.  Will SSP2 work in LR3 or will I need to wait until you issue an SSP3?

You can install the LR2 version of SSP/LR into LR3.

We'll probably add more functionality and release an LR3 version to take advantage of some of the new features (like watermarking).

So, how about the lr3 version?
I think the publish functionality would be a great addition to be able to manage exporting images and movies to director.

edit: I agree.  I'm not sure what's being planned.

Re: LR 3 - new publish functionality to be used by Slideshowpro

I would also love to see SlideshowPro adopt Lightroom 3's new publish services model. I've been using the Flickr publish service for a few months now, and it's brilliant. It makes it so simple to dynamically update different sets. Now in the LR 3.2, they've added Facebook and Smugmug as well. It just makes it so simple to revise different collections, and as others have pointed out, it's possible to create smart publish folders as well based on any number of criteria.

The new publishing model is a big step forward, and this functionality would be extremely valuable for Director. I hope to see it in a future release of the SSP LR plugin.

Re: LR 3 - new publish functionality to be used by Slideshowpro

Just thought I'd add my voice to requesting LR publish integrated into Director. I'm overhauling some of my collections at present and updating meta data - some of these images are already published by Director - but I really don't want to have to re-export them to Director to update the meta data there.
