Amazon S3 and CloudFront Support

It would really be great if I could links media items in Director to files stored on my Amazon S3/Cloud Front area. I realize allowing Director to upload to these locations is problematic as there are permissions issues ( Director would need my Amazon credentials ) but an alternative to this, which would be useful for other locations as well, would be to allow me to simply enter a URL instead of uploading a file when uploading content.

Director would still be loaded on my web server, but it would then be able to reference content on another server or sub-domain. I think this would be a very powerful feature...

I second this request.

Re: Amazon S3 and CloudFront Support

Topic seems a little stale, but I third that idea.  Just for giggles I'm going to see what I can accomplish with some mod_rewrite rules for the next hour or so before I have to head to the office.  If I get anywhere I'll post again. TT

Re: Amazon S3 and CloudFront Support

A tutorial on how to do this with JW Player is at http://www.longtailvideo.com/support/jw … loudfront. This shows that with a player and Amazon's S3 and CloudFront it is possible now to do and would be great if Director had this capability to store photos/videos, especially videos due to their size, on not only using Amazon's S3 but others cloud vendors as well. But I would be happy if it supported just Amazon S3 for now as that would be a step in the right direction.

This is the next big step that Director and other CMS application have to take to exist over the long haul.

Steve

this would be a great improvement both for performances and server space usage for big picture collections

I have all of my WordPress websites running with CloudFront CDN; it takes a major load off of the web server, especially for very large image and video.
