Upgrade problem regarding 'world writable permissions'

Hi

I'm trying to upgrade an install from 1.4.1 (Build 4241) to Available version: 1.5.4 (Build 8205) via the auto-upgrade in the Manager.

I'm getting the following error:
Uh oh!

Director was not able to properly write the updated files to the server. Make sure the Director folder has world writable permissions and try again.

The install has the correct perms applied to the appropriate directories, so could somebody please let me know what 'World Writable' applies to?

First thing I tried was applying 777 to ssp_director at root but no joy, as would be expected!

Please can someone advise.

Thanks in advance
Ian

Re: Upgrade problem regarding 'world writable permissions'

Does anyone have any ideas here please? Really could do with some help on this one, even if you only point me in the direction of a similar solved thread.
Thanks

Re: Upgrade problem regarding 'world writable permissions'

I also received the same error when upgrading from 1.5.4 (Build 8205) to 1.5.4 (Build 8995). Also with that error, my files on server were renamed with a ".off" extension causing my slideshows to not work and causing an index directory listing page instead of the login page for Director. I fixed it by removing all the .off extensions through FTP. But can anyone tell me why this is happening. I do have my permissions correct for the director folder (ssp_director) - set at 755 and tried 777 as well but nothing worked.

Re: Upgrade problem regarding 'world writable permissions'

The link above does not seem to help with this issue, but it did load the content more quickly on frontend. Is there still no resolution to this problem? We are experiencing this on all of our clients' websites now and some are now having problems uploading so I need to get them to upgrade their SlideShowPro but can't due to this issue! We can upgrade manually but that is alot more work. I am going to submit a support ticket since it looks like this is only for the community forum. will let you know what I find out.

Re: Upgrade problem regarding 'world writable permissions'

I submitted a support ticket and this is SSP's reply: Some servers do not support auto upgrading. So, if permissions have been set to 777 recursively and the upgrade still doesn't work, the only option is a manual upgrade.

No joy!
