Dear colleagues,
I would like to know if you find the following feature request practical and helpful. If so, will you kindly comment and add your voice to the following feature request?
Feature Request for SlideShowPRO for Flash / Director: A selective or "smart" crop to fit all option for photographers with full screen, liquid layout with or without the Ken Burns effect.
Scenario: In SSP for Flash / Director's current state, both "crop to fit" and "crop to fit all" do not distinguish between portrait and landscaped photographs. If the portrait image is loaded from Director, the crop to fit options will ruin your composition by cropping. I know that users of Director can pick a focal point or zone, but I'd like something more as an option.
What if SSP / Director will detect image size such that for us who like to use either crop-to-fit options, the portrait images will be loaded as "proportional" while landscaped images will be cropped to fit?
I would not mind having this feature in the next paid upgrade, I am a proud owner of the trinity of SSP products currently deployed on my photography website. Thank you for your time and consideration. Please comment and reply if this is something you'd like to have as a feature.
Yours sincerely,
Ronald Nyein Zaw Tan

I completely second this feature request.
It is actually something I am in need of right now for a clients website, but we are currently sticking with crop-to-fit for all for the meantime but this 'smart' crop-to-fit would be an incredible help as so much of a portrait image is lost in the cropping.
Please add this functionality to the next update, as it is definitely a sticking point that has made the client re-think whether SSP is worth using as the CMS, I have stood by SSP and convinced the client to stick with it in the hope that this will be implemented, as I'm sure has been the same for other photographers and will be going forward.

I saw a photoshop plugin for sale somewhere for bloggers that easily stitches images to a set width, so the entire album same exact size (w and h). While this client-side tweaking not ideal, decent workaround. I noticed a good bit of the featured sites seem to do this, actually using the "letterboxing" and margins as a design element. Again, not a server-side effect, but could be worth an afternoon with Photoshop seeing what you could do.

I think what you're referring to is called "Tych Panel."
