Coppermine
Excuse my ignorance regarding APIs and PHP coding, but I have been looking for a Coppermine alternative and the API examples have intrigued me. Is it possible for this new API to be used to create a front-end application similar to the Coppermine and Gallery 2 applications?

Yes via the api you would be able to create a front-end interface for your gallery.
