I'm trying to do inline captions, because I don't want an animation after each photo in my gallery loads -- but there's no inline "if available" option. Can one be added? Even replacing the captions with spaces doesn't work.
(Honestly, I can't imagine a use case where "no caption" would ever be desirable. It seems weird to make it a default.)
Similarly, I'm building some galleries that have a Gallery Title but no Gallery Description. But there's still empty space where the Description would go, which is messing up my layout a bit. It'd be nice to have a switch to turn the display of these fields on or off.

Yep, another vote to remove the "No Caption" text. There is no need for it.

Agreed.

bump?

Please remove it. It is really not needed when you have a title only.

I totally agree. It's about the only thing I don't like about the product. Both "No title" and "No caption" are totally useless and should not display at all. I don't even mind if it still takes up the space, as long as it would just display blanks instead of this useless text. Some photos don't need a caption!

I was going to post a thread like this. There's a kind of Occam's Razor/Hippocratic Oath aspect to the "No Caption" thing: programmer's should seek the simplest approach, and the one that does no harm.
"No Caption" makes sense to a programmer (very late at night) but has bad consequences for end-users.
That said, a big shout-out to Mr. Domney: SSP is new to me and I'm enjoying it thoroughly. A very nice addition to Lightroom! Thank you!

+10 this has been a recognized issue for MONTHS. Does anyone in the development side ever read this forum?

Any updates on this "bug"? Would love to get rid of that text.

Sorry I didn't see this thread (and it's old now). For anyone searching and coming across this thread, you can change the text. Check out these links:

I'm having a problem with the "No Caption" text showing up in the Flash component version. If I add a caption tag in the XML, for some of the photos (not all of my photos need a caption), and select:
"Overlay on Rollover (if Available)" ( because I only want it to show up IF there is a caption tag )
The photos that have NO caption tag in the XML show the "No Caption" text. Isn't it logical that the caption just would not show, since there is no tag? Why the "No Caption" text?
I'm still not seeing anything in the Wiki for the Flash component that answers this.
This is what it says:
"Overlay on Rollover (if Available)": Same as "Overlay on Rollover" except SlideShowPro will first test for the existence of a caption. If none exists, caption will not be displayed.
But that doesn't seem to be the case...

If you have a problem, please post in the appropriate forum. This is the SSP/LR Feature Request forum.

This is a helpful fix, but it's a fix.
Two options to consider: change the default text strings to be blank in the "No" instances, or adjust SSP's overall behavior so that nothing appears if there is nothing to show.
In essence, with all appreciation for SSP, you're asking us to do your work for you here when the one-time fix is incredibly simple.

Duly noted.

Hello,
This didn't solve my issue with the "no caption" appearing. I am using the newest version of Standalone with Director. I opened up the param.xml file and found that string. I removed the (,No caption, No title,) and left it as (,,) and reloaded it on the server and yet they still appear.
Any ideas? The links you provided are for Lightroom. Is this why? Is there an other step for Standalone?
Thanks,
Travis

Well, ya, the links I provided are for SSP/LR since this is the SSP/LR forum ![]()
Did you clear your cache before you reloaded your slideshow? I'm not familiar w/ SSP/Standalone, but I believe it uses the same basic param.xml file. Also, did you try using spaces and not removing the text completely?
