Re: SWFs not working after upgrade to 1.1/1.2/1.3/1.4 - READ THIS FIRST

As a professional web developer, it seems crazy that I have to go through all these steps to upgrade Director - but more important - Redoing all my slide shows!

I only have 3 albums, but what if I used this product on say several sites for clients and then did upgrades - I know I would have very pissed off customers if there pic galleries are down while I "Redo" their FLA files.

Of course - we do need to remember that we should keep these FLA files around just in case we have to redo them all???

There has to be a better way. I mean this is a nice product as far as what the user sees, but from a developers perspective - I have to fix these problems on my own time - costing me money as I cannot charge clients for this.

These latest upgrades are totally not developer friendly. I am reluctant to use this product on other websites now.

Keep in mind that this only is necessary if you are upgrading an old version of Director (pre-1.1) to the newer builds. No matter what, whenever you upgrade a piece of software that is 2+ years old, there will likely be extra steps in order to properly upgrade all the components. That's why we recommend staying up to date with DIrector and SlideShowPro, at least staying with the latest major updates...which at this time are SlideShowPro 1.9 and SlideShowPro Director 1.3.

If your slideshows do not work after an upgrade to 1.1, 1.2 or 1.3, check 2 things first:

1) You must be using a SWF created with SlideShowPro 1.6 or higher. Also, you need to create a new FLA, upgrading older copies created with earlier versions of SlideShowPro will not work.

2) Be sure to set the XML File Type to "Director" as shown below:

http://forums.slideshowpro.net/img/scre … _setup.jpg

3) Lastly, be sure to check your updated version of Director for the correct XML file path for your gallery. Use the "Copy" buttons to load the path to your clipboard, then paste it into the component inspector.

What if after installing the latest version of Slideshowpro, the "Director" option is not available in the component inspector?

Just install 1.9x and I don't have this option??

Is this a new FLA or are you upgrading an existing FLA? If it is a new FLA, then the Director option should show up. If it is an existing FLA, these instructions need to be followed:

Re: SWFs not working after upgrade to 1.1/1.2/1.3/1.4 - READ THIS FIRST

Hi
I have installed director (1.3.4) onto my server, it works fine now, I have upgraded my slideshowpro for flash to version 1.9.4 (AS2) & I am using Flash MX2004.
Even creating completely new slideshows using 1.9.4, copying the xml filepath
(http://www.iargalon.nu/ssp_director/images.php?album=4) for example, & ensuring the xml filetype is set to director, my slideshows dont work......... they open at the correct size etc. it just seem that they cannot find the files. I have also tried using a filepath from my hosted galleries
(http://mikedevlin.slideshowpro.com/imag … album=4731),
these do not work either ?
I am sure it must be a simple mistake, but I really could do with some help.....

Thanks

I updated to the new version and now I can't login. The login window just sits there and doesn't go to the normal user configuration. Is there something I need to do? I haven't rebuilt my FLA because of complications...

Can I roll back to my earlier version just so I can have my web site working until I get this figured out?

That file wasn't replaced in the upgrade right? I checked and it's the same as before. Any options for me to roll back? I'm really hosed now, since I can't access anything, and my site is completely down. This is my main source for showing my work, and now I can't show any of my new film reels. Any advice would be nice.

every time i see this update thing on the beginning and no chance to say no to it i have a bad feeling about it because everytime i have problems with it and spend more time i have on it.

it would be so great if you let the user choose weather they want to update or not... if its working fine, i have no reason to update at all. or i have to decide. this would be great.

I am using an embedded version of SlideshowPro standalone 197 and although the images are being displayed in Firefox browser, the instructions set in param.xml do not appear to be read as set and make no change on the Flash display.  The files do appear to link - anyone have an answer to this?

Hi,  I have now re-created the fla and swf using Flash 8 instead of the embedded version and through the components panel I have managed to make the required changes to the text size and colour.  The problem I still appear to have is that although I have added audio to Album 1 and the audio 'play' button appears, (prefer to have user elect to have sound), I am not connecting with the audio file in the images.xml file which has the link as: <album title="Norwegian Cruise - Vision of the Seas" description="Day One - Embarkation at Copenhagen" lgpath="Gallery/Album1/Large/"
audio="Gallery/Album1/mp3/Norway1.mp3"  audioCaption="Cruise by Cruise airbone">  I am currently attempting to correct this but so far have not achieved!  The URL is http://www.theimagealbum.co.uk/NorwaySl … ruise.html - thanks for any advice!

I think I have managed to get it right this time!  I have reverted to the embedded version of SlideShowPro and made a few adjustments to the 'links' and all appears to be working OK!  Thanks - great software!

Re: SWFs not working after upgrade to 1.1/1.2/1.3/1.4 - READ THIS FIRST

Hi, I think I am having a similar issue as seanxian above(specialolympicsflorida.org). I updated the Director from 1.1.4 to 1.1.9 and the slideshow is now invisible (the swf loads, appears to have everything (you can click the thumbnails, though they are invisible). I checked the crossdomain file and it appears to be as it should be.

I _think_ the slideshow swf was created with SSP1.6.3. (Can't quite verify that from looking at the file).

Could you take a look at it and tell me where I should troubleshoot?

Akira

From the looks of your different portfolio pages, I don't think the XML File Type is set to Director. You may need to recreate the FLA/SWF with the latest version of SlideShowPro.

Re: SWFs not working after upgrade to 1.1/1.2/1.3/1.4 - READ THIS FIRST

Hi Brad, thanks for the reply.
I did recreate the FLA/SWF with the new version of SlideShowPro (1.9.7 AS2). The thing worked fine while the Director was the older version (I had to roll back just to get the old swf working, can't upload new images on that older Director now though, which was the reason this whole thing got started), but then when I updated the Director again, it says (from within Flash) "The XML file http://group3.us/ssp_director/images.php?gallery=2 could not be found."

Do you have any idea/suggestions for troubleshooting this?

I am going to roll-back everything in the meantime, so if you need to see the updated files in action please let me know...

Cheers,
Akira

Re: SWFs not working after upgrade to 1.1/1.2/1.3/1.4 - READ THIS FIRST

Hi Brad,

My last post might have been unclear. Can I get your support on this issue? Here's what's going on, at www.group3.us/portfolio.php :

- the swf is now generated from scratch using Flash CS4 and the latest SSP(1.8.7 AS2).
- Director version is 1.1.4
- When Director is updated to 1.1.9, and confirmed all images and albums are present and working, the flash file gives an error "The XML file http://group3.us/ssp_director/images.php?gallery=2 could not be found" (the XML string being exactly as it appears in the Director control panel).

The XML file type is set to Director.

What could it be, then?

FWIW, I am using Mac OS 10.5, my server is on shared hosting UNIX machine running:
Apache version    2.2.8 (Unix)
PHP version    5.2.5
MySQL version    5.0.77-community

Thanks for your help,

Akira

If you are using anything less than Director 1.1 (like 1.0.9.9), you should set the XML File Type to "Default".

Re: SWFs not working after upgrade to 1.1/1.2/1.3/1.4 - READ THIS FIRST

Hi Brad,

That's not the problem. See, I _need_ to upgrade Director to 1.1.9 (or whatever it is that works with the current Flash player). But when I do, the SSP flash component doesn't work (after I change the file type and path).  I thought it was because I needed to use SSP version 1.6 or later, but when I recreated the flash file from scratch using the newest version SSP, it still failed.

Cheers,
Akira

FWIW, my issue with the new director turned out to be one of the parameters I set in the new version of the SSP for Flash ("Link Preview Size" parameter that was missing a value). Thanks for Antonio and Brad for helping me get there. Just posting it in hopes someone might find it useful...

Finally got round to upgrading from 1.2 to 1.4.

did everything it said on the instructions. (delete app and upload and replace new ssp director folder)
Now when I go to www.antclausen.co.uk/ssp_director I get a 500 Internal Server message.

Very frustrating as this is now my full time business (time down = loss of $$) etc etc...

Please help!

Thx!

You are losing me entirely, I'm afraid. It's been a couple of years since I set up the slideshow.  Now I upgraded SSP Director (at least I think I did).  I got an error that the albums table already existed -- of course it does.  Do I have to make a new FLA file?  I'm forgetting entirely how to do this.

Hello!

Well my issue is similar but the behavior is different. Some of my projects are images, some are videos and some are interactive SWFs for games etc. With older versions when I uploaded an SWF inside the SSP this SWF works fine. Now, all my interactive SWFs are not working.

How can I get it to work again?
Thanks.

I have just updated a customer's director and now the slideshow is not showing when I attempt to access the directors admin panel the login page is completely white and it just displays a the number "0" in the upper left conner.  I updated director about a week ago and checked it to make sure everything was okay.  It was okay.

They contacted me today and nothing.  The swf was created with 1.9.4 as2 slideshow pro for flash.

Help because I'm on the hook to get this working.  I usually backup but didn't this time around (of course).

I woke up today with the exact same issue, except for the "0" in the upper left. My screen is completely white when I attempt to log into ssp_director.

Has this been addressed? I have the latest installed, my embedded slideshow was just created a few days ago, now the slideshow isn't showing up on my homepage.

Director upgrading seems to clean up all the xml files in the m/params director.  i had a custom template in there, as per instructions, that i used on my galleries and found that my website wasn't working because the custom template file was deleted upon upgrading.  so now i have to recreate (and back it up locally) so that this doesn't happen again on the next upgrade.
